Product Description Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain?conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 220,000 copies since the release of the first edition in 2001. The second edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.
Amazon.com Review The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapy has been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations. The author?s interest in trigger point therapy began when he used it to successfully treat his frozen shoulder. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to teaching others the same techniques. That dedication is obvious throughout his writing and the care he takes to make the therapy understandable to the lay public. Also included in this new edition is updated information that should be of great interest to pain specialists and bodyworkers, as well as useful instruction in a variety of relaxation techniques. Overall, this book is an excellent self-care resource for anyone interested in pain relief.--Larry Trivieri Jr.

WORKbook June 29, 2009 This book is detailed. Which was very discouraging when I first cracked it open. I was expecting a workbook but it much more like a text book. I found it hard to find put any information with out reading everything thing. There aren't any summaries, or steps at a glance, which makes it very difficult to use in the limited free time I have after work. Its not an entirely bad book, it is very informative and detailed. However if you are time limited, not interested in reading a lot or impatient, this is most likely not what you are looking for.
Years of pain on the way to Resolution after consulting book June 26, 2009 My 78 year old mother in law had seen cardiologists, gastroenterologists, internists, pt, rheumatologists and more to resolve a non-cardiac chest pain that debilitated her when she drove or rode in a vehicle. She would have to stop every 45 minutes or so and her life was severely impacted. My massage therapist recommended this book, performed a few manipulations of these trigger points and she felt relief for the first time in years. It is worth the effort; she read the book cover to cover and it changed her life. Thank you.
Worth Way More Than $15 June 20, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After over a year of dealing with excruciating plantar fascitis and just being so discouraged, one evening I was surfing the internet and came across Davies book on someone's website. After spending thousands of dollars with a top-notch sports therapist for a local pro-baseball team in my town to correct the issue to no avail, getting those "socks" that are supposed to help with this issue, a sports doctor, my chiropractor, massage therapist, pain meds, nothing seemed to help.
I figured, why not spend another $15. When I got the book, I found the section that deals with plantar fascitis and began doing what it said, basically apply pressure to certain areas of my calves so it could release those areas. It was pretty painful to do this, but doing this that very first time, I began to feel a bit of "release" of the pain.
For the next few days, I continued what the book said to do and by the time I was finished, the pain was all gone. This was about 3.5 yrs ago and it's never returned. Of course, now I know the things I need to do to keep it from returning.
When my kids experience various pains, I go to the book to find out how to get to the root cause and eliminate what's causing it - help them stretch out and apply trigger point therapy. This, used in conjunction with chiropractice treatment, massage therapy is great.
I loved this book so much I bought a half dozen and have given all but 1 of the books to friends to use to help them in dealing with pains in their body. Other than the Bible, I've never purchased that many copies of a book for distribution to others.
A book to spend some serious time with June 16, 2009 I ordered this book along with a TheraCane about a month ago. I've found the book very enlightening. It shows you exact points of tension on lots of different muscle groups. If you have a pain, it's likely outlined to some extent in this book. I feel I've barely scratched the surface of this book's potential.
Many troubles, aches and pains we have are quite often the result of stressed trigger points in our body. Headaches, toothaches, issues with our range of movement, even things like sickness or impaired vision can be helped by alleviating stressed trigger points. I'm looking forward to spending more time with this book and learning more about the muscles and how to heal them.
The book does a good job of clearly outlining different muscles groups associated with particular aches and pains, and shows the exact points to apply massage or pressure, even giving important advice on HOW to massage. For instance, it's a good idea to support your hands while massaging to avoid stressing them, or to use tools whenever possible to prevent excess strain....Highly recommended to anyone in pain wanting to alleviate it and to learn how to prevent it.
A must-read for fibromyalgia sufferers June 16, 2009 This book has been so helpful for dealing with FMS and chronic myofascial pain. At first, I worked on trigger points with it open in front of me all the time. Now, I don't need to look at the diagrams. Just to find out that some of my back-of-head pain was coming from muscles in the front or side of the neck was huge. Great for working out the remnants of whiplash. It has been frustrating trying to find a practitioner that really knows how to do this, but after a year of trying different ones that claimed to, I finally did. Thanks to the book, I can work on myself between professional treatments.
